We weten eigenlijk weinig af van de schade die aan het kind wordt toegebracht, vooral longitudinaal gezien. Over de late reakties bijvoorbeeld is weinig onderzoek verricht. Datgene wat men gaat zeggen over de pedofilie wordt sterk gekleurd door eigen opvatting, eigen moraal, ook in sexualibus. Een missionaire of moralistische denkwijze zou ik graag als onwetenschappelijk willen bestempelen. U weet dat deze denkwijze veel voorkomt; er bestaat een niet geringe weerstand bij de Nederlandse bevolking tegen alles wat met pedofilie te maken heeft. De opvatting dat pedofilie een perversie is die met vuur en zwaard bestreden moet worden, leeft bij een groot deel van onze bevolking, ook in de tachtiger jaren.
