Former crown prosecutor jailed for child porn
Former New South Wales crown prosecutor Patrick Power was sentenced today to a maximum of 15 months in jail for possession of child pornography. Power sat with his head bowed as NSW Chief Magistrate Graeme Henson ordered him to serve at least eight months behind bars. Downing Centre Local Court was told that 433 images of child pornography, and 31 child pornography videos, were found on Power's personal computer. Some of them depicted sex acts involving children under the age of 10. The collection was discovered on July 4 last year when Power took his computer to work at the office of the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions for repairs. The 54-year-old Senior Counsel stood down from his position as a deputy senior crown prosecutor and on July 6 was charged with one count of possessing child pornography. He pleaded guilty to the charge in January and resigned two weeks later.
