Sweden's former justice minister Gun Hellsvik died on November 14, 2016, at 74 years of age. Gun Hellsvik was a politician for Moderaterna, the conservative party in Sweden, and served as Minister for Justice from 1991 to 1994. She made headlines when she defended a Swedish "sex tourist" who was busted in Thailand. The Swedish embassy gave him a new passport, so that he could flee the country, which made people furious. But Gun's message was clear: "A Swedish citizen should always have the right to come home."

Hellsvik was also criticized for not taking enough measures to ban possession of child porn, despite the Swedish Media Publishers' Association (TU), the Swedish Union of Journalists (SJF), and other institutions were against such a ban. The ban was realized only in 1999.
