Australian tourist Newton Thompson may have been murdered in London earlier this month because of his uncanny resemblance to convicted pedophile Robert Excell, a police source says. Police are investigating the death of Mr Thompson, whose body was found at a hotel in Paddington, west London, on August 2. He had suffered heavy blows to the back of his head.

Excell was deported from Western Australia to his native UK on July 30, two days before Mr Thompson's murder. Excell, 66, and Mr Thompson, 61, both had longish white hair and clipped white beards, and both wore almost identical silver metal-framed glasses.
