A 36-year-old Orange County man has been convicted of first-degree murder for killing his neighbor because he mistakenly thought the victim was a pedophile. [...]
The 54-year-old [Bobby Ray] Rainwater had been convicted of felony assault with intent to rape an adult woman in the early 1980s, but was never convicted of sexually assaulting a child. [Robert Eugene] Vasquez, who will be sentenced Aug. 23, faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
