Gay publisher defends NAMBLA
Although it has its share of gay detractors, the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) - a support group for pederats - continues to find support among "mainstream" homosexual leaders. Many gays believe that their movement - founded on the principle of sexual liberation and widely perceived as grounded in deviant conduct - has no right to ostracize sexual "lifestyles" deemed abnormal by the public. Some gay leaders go further; one such man is Ed Hougen, publisher of The Guide magazine, a Boston-based monthly that covers "gay travel, entertainment, politics, & sex."
Hougen and The Guide do not hide their support for NAMBLA. Indeed, listed in the publisher's box as "Features Editor" is Bill Andriette, editor of the NAMBLA Bulletin, the NAMBLA-newsletter that contains assorted photos of prepubescent boys and promotes the organization's goal of eliminating age-of-consent laws. Also on The Guide's team is illustrator Chuck Dodson, whose drawings appear in the NAMBLA Bulletin. The magazine, published by Fidelity Publishing, is uninhibited even by libertine homosexual standards.
In an age in which some gay publications are excising their sex and porn ads to draw non-gay sponsors, The Guide crusades against closing down gay bathhouses and writes enthusiastically about sadomasochism (in a monthly column titled "Crack the Whip"). Homosexual porn writer and sex chronicler Boyd McDonald was on staff until his recent death. An editorial eulogized McDonald as follow (minus the censorship): "Boyd shows us that c--suckers aren't inherently sick, that kids who choose to have sex aren't being raped, that public nudity can be thrilling, that promiscuity can be a virtue."
